GENERALIZED WEAKNESS/ MUSCLE ATROPHY
After a surgery and bed rest the patient might have generalized weakness due to wasting of muscle and poor nutrition.
It can be prevented by:
- Range of motion exercises
- Isometric exercise ( contracting muscle without causing movement) of the affected part
- Strengthening exercises (when fully capable), exercises are performed with the help of weights and therabands.
As only one part of the body is affected, there are chances that the rest of the parts/ limbs may go into atrophy (muscle goes into wasting), physiotherapy plays a major role in preventing muscle atrophy in such cases with the help of needed exercises and in the unaffected limb also.
